Vivariant Laboratories Inc. – (the “Company” or “Vivariant”) is proud to announce that the company received a Gold badge for ‘Potency in Gummies’ in the Spring 2020 Emerald Test. Receiving this badge not only demonstrates our labs skill in cannabis testing, but also our commitment to good science in the cannabis industry. Vivariant previously received gold for ‘Potency in Hemp’ in 2019.
The Emerald Test™ is a bi-annual Inter-Laboratory Comparison and Proficiency Test (ILC/PT) program for the cannabis and hemp testing industry. Government agencies use PT programs for laboratory licensure and compliance to promote accurate testing for quality and safety.
“Independent proficiency testing helps determine if [a] lab is able to deliver the services marketed to its customers,” says Ken Groggel, director of the Proficiency Testing Program at Emerald Scientific. “Regulatory agencies can use this information when licensing, monitoring & enforcing good science for public safety,” Groggel said. “This should be the priority whether you are a grower, manufacturer, testing laboratory, regulatory entity, medical patient or adult use consumer.”
“I am proud of our team’s method development accomplishments.” President and Founder, Thomas Fraleigh said. “There are no published standard methodologies for cannabis analysis yet and gummies are a challenging matrix. This is a positive step forward in developing our full suite of cannabis testing services for our clients.”
Health Canada mandates each lot or batch of cannabis undergo several quality control tests before it can be released for sale. The testing requirements are outlined in the Guidance document: Good production practices guide for cannabis. Producers of cannabis and cannabis products work with labs such as Vivariant to test for phytocannabinoids (potency) and microbial and chemical contaminants such as pesticides, residual solvents, heavy metals, aflatoxins, etc.
Vivariant is a Health Canada licensed cannabis testing laboratory located in Mississauga, Ontario, just north of Pearson International Airport. We strive to help the Canadian cannabis and hemp industry meet their regulatory obligations and create better products.
