Toronto, August 23rd, 2019 – Vivariant Laboratories Inc. – (the “Company” or “Vivariant”) is pleased to announce it has received its Analytical Testing license under the Cannabis Act and Cannabis Regulations

“We are excited to finally be authorized to conduct analytical testing under the Cannabis Act.” Vivariant President & Founder, Thomas Fraleigh said. “Vivariant was one of the cohort of applicants under the previous Licensed Dealer (LD) framework. Following the passage of the Cannabis Act we had to migrate from an LD application to a Cannabis Act License Applicant. While this placed us first in line for the new license type, the bureaucratic delays prolonged the process.”

Health Canada, the government agency that administers Analytical Testing licenses under the Cannabis Act and Cannabis Regulations, maintains a Good Production Practices Guide for Cannabis including its testing requirements. For cannabis products, producers need to test their final good or its inputs for aflatoxins, metals, moisture content, pesticides, potency of cannabinoids, and microbial contaminants including total yeast & mold, total aerobic plate count, coliforms, E. coli, & Salmonella.

“Being authorized to handle cannabis samples allows us to move forward with our technical development and service offering. We have performed preliminary method development for cannabinoid potency using analytical standards and look forward to validating our methods with actual samples”. Mr. Fraleigh stated. “At the same time, we continue the permitting process with the City of Mississauga to upgrade our laboratory to support the infrastructure requirements of the other tests required for cannabis products.”

Established in 2017, Vivariant is headquartered in Mississauga, Ontario and specializes in analytical chemistry and microbiology testing services for the Cannabis, Cosmetics, and Dietary Supplement/Natural Health Product industries.
