Toronto, February 2, 2022 – Vivariant Laboratories Inc. – (the “Company” or “Vivariant”) is pleased to announce it has achieved the performance benchmark of ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation by Canada Association of Laboratory Accreditation (CALA); the international standard for which labs are accredited to be recognized as technically competent, impartial, and consistent in their operations.
“ISO accreditation is an important milestone for us,” Vivariant President & Founder, Thomas Fraleigh said. “It shows our potential customers that we have taken the necessary steps to ensure test results are accurate and reliable. We value quality here.” ISO 17025 accreditation can only be issued by authorized, third-party, accreditation bodies such as CALA, which serves both public and private sector testing laboratories in Canada and abroad. “CALA is internationally recognized and has a strong reputation in the industry,” Quality Manager, Anand Thota remarked.
The Company has also applied for a Drug Establishment License (DEL) which would allow us to work with pharmaceutical customers that have Good Manufacturing Processes (GMP) requirements. While GMP and ISO 17025 have common elements, there are some distinct differences. ISO 17025 incorporates peer comparison Proficiency Testing (PT) requirements for accreditation. This allows labs to score their results on blind samples. PT is a valuable tool in the Cannabis Industry, particularly for potency testing where access to reference materials of appropriate strength is limited and producers can struggle with lab-to-lab variation in their results. “We chose to invest in seeking accreditation to ISO 17025 in addition to GMP due to the value of proficiency testing.” Mr. Fraleigh noted. “It’s another box we’ve checked in the development of our quality management system. We are looking for our GMP audit later this year.”
